Student and Teacher Perceptions of Features in an English Textbook for Junior High School

Textbooks have been found to weaknesses, affecting the curriculum, approaches, methods, and teaching materials. Therefore, changes need be made achieve maximum learning outcomes. The objective of study was investigate perception teachers students towards English materials that followed a pragmatic perspective as resource build communicative competence junior high school students. Quantitative research with data collection using 5-scale Linker questionnaire used measure for Junior High School Students: Pragmatics Based textbook. There were 9 82 who filled out 20 questions about their perceptions. results showed teacher’s perceptions were: feasibility content/material (61%), presentation in books (63%), language (59%) dialogue content conformity (50%). Meanwhile, student’s included adjustments students’ abilities. These vocabulary book, dialogues contained easy-to-understand instructions exercises. 50% student respondents felt textbook very appropriate. Hence, it can concluded appropriate seventh grade Semarang.
